ELIT321 Graphic Novel – Guest Lecture and Workshop
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, students of ELIT321 Graphic Novel, taught by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nadira Puškar Mustafić, had the opportunity to attend two engaging guest lectures and a creative workshop led by colleagues from the Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design (VACD) study program.
The event began with Asst. Prof. Nejira Mulahmetović, MA, who delivered an insightful lecture on the formal language of graphic novels, emphasizing how forms, shapes, and colors function as powerful visual tools that interact with text to create meaning and emotional depth.
This was followed by a practical illustration workshop facilitated by Assistant Dženeta Valjevac, during which students used post-it notes to design one-page, multi-panel stories illustrating significant emotional moments from their own lives. The activity encouraged students to think visually and personally about storytelling, yielding creative and heartfelt results.
The session concluded with an inspiring lecture by Assoc. Prof. Roman Sulejmanpašić, who combined live drawing demonstrations with examples from famous films and popular culture to explain how visual narratives are constructed - from setting and atmosphere to character development. The event offered students valuable interdisciplinary insight, connecting visual design and literary analysis in meaningful ways.
Special thanks go to Asst. Prof. Dr. Nadira Puškar Mustafić for organizing this collaboration, and to our guest professors and assistant for sharing their expertise and creativity with IUS students.
